2. How We Use Information

We may use information to:

  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site;
  • Provide cost estimates and calculator results;

3. Contractor Estimate Requests

The Site may allow you to request estimates or information from contractors.

When you submit a contractor estimate request, we may disclose the information in your request to:

  • Contractor-matching services;
  • Contractors or home-service providers;
  • Lead-processing and communications providers;
  • Vendors that route, validate, or manage requests; and
  • Other parties involved in responding to your request.

The information shared may include your name, contact information, ZIP code, project type, project description, property information, project timing, and other details you submit.

Those parties may contact you by telephone, email, or text message as described in the consent disclosure presented with the applicable form.

We may receive compensation in connection with estimate requests, referrals, calls, leads, appointments, purchases, or other qualifying activity.

Submitting an estimate request is optional. You may continue using the informational portions of the Site without submitting a contractor request.

The privacy practices of a contractor or matching service are governed by that party’s own privacy policy. We are not responsible for how an independent contractor or third-party matching service handles information after receiving it.

4. Advertising

The Site may display:

  • Google AdSense or other advertising-network ads;
  • Personalized or interest-based advertising;
  • Contextual or non-personalized advertising;
  • Paid local contractor placements;
  • Sponsored listings;
  • Affiliate links;
  • Referral offers; and
  • Advertisements for our own products or services.

Third-party advertising vendors, including Google, may use cookies, web beacons, device identifiers, and similar technologies to:

  • Display advertisements;
  • Select advertisements based on prior visits to this Site or other websites;
  • Limit how frequently an advertisement is displayed;
  • Measure advertisement performance;
  • Detect invalid traffic and fraud; and
  • Produce aggregated advertising reports.

Google and its advertising partners may use advertising cookies to serve ads based on a user’s visits to this Site and other sites.

You can manage certain advertising preferences through Google’s advertising settings and through any privacy or consent controls displayed on the Site.

Paid contractor placements do not receive access to personal information merely because they advertise on the Site. Information is provided to a contractor or matching service only when you submit an applicable request, contact the advertiser directly, or otherwise authorize the interaction.

For additional information about paid placements and commercial relationships, see our Advertising Disclosure.

5. Analytics and Site Measurement

We may use analytics and measurement services, including Google Analytics, to understand how visitors find and use the Site.

These services may collect information such as:

  • Pages visited;
  • Approximate geographic area;
  • Device and browser information;
  • Referring websites;
  • Interactions with calculators and Site features; and
  • General engagement and traffic information.

We use this information to improve Site content, navigation, calculator functionality, performance, and user experience.

Analytics providers may use cookies or similar technologies according to their own privacy policies.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small files stored on a browser or device. We and our service providers may use cookies, local storage, pixels, tags, web beacons, and similar technologies.

These technologies may be used for:

  • Essential Site operation;
  • Security and fraud prevention;
  • Remembering preferences;
  • Analytics and measurement;
  • Advertising;

Some cookies are necessary for the Site to function. Other cookies may be used for analytics or advertising.

Where required by applicable law, we request consent before using certain nonessential cookies or technologies.

You may be able to manage cookies through:

  • The cookie or privacy controls displayed on the Site;
  • Your browser settings;
  • Your device settings; or
  • Advertising-industry opt-out tools.

Disabling cookies may affect the operation of calculators, forms, advertisements, or other Site features.

  • Project observations.

We do not intend to publicly display your private contact information as part of a cost report unless you expressly authorize it.

Do not include another person’s name, address, telephone number, email address, license number, contract, or other personal information unless you have authorization to provide and publish it.

Additional terms governing submitted content appear in our Terms and Conditions.

Advertising and Analytics Providers

Advertising and analytics providers may collect or receive identifiers, device information, usage data, approximate location information, and related information through cookies and similar technologies.

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to:

  • Comply with a law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or legal process;
  • Respond to a government request;
  • Enforce our agreements;
  • Protect the rights, property, or safety of RemodelingExpense, our users, or others;
  • Detect or prevent fraud, security threats, or unlawful activity; or
  • Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

Business Transfers

Information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or transfer of all or part of the Site or business.

9. Sale, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising

We do not sell personal information for money in the ordinary meaning of the word “sell.”

However, certain privacy laws define “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” broadly. Under those definitions, the following activities may potentially be considered a sale, sharing, or processing for targeted advertising:

  • Use of third-party advertising cookies or identifiers;
  • Disclosure of estimate-request information to contractor-matching partners in connection with compensated referrals; or
  • Certain analytics or advertising-technology activities.

Where required by applicable law, eligible users may request to opt out of qualifying sales, sharing, or targeted advertising.

To submit an opt-out request, contact us at info@remodelingexpense.com.

You may also use any available cookie-preference or privacy control displayed on the Site.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of children under 16.

10. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to:

  • Provide requested services;
  • Maintain business and transaction records;
  • Analyze Site operations;
  • Prevent fraud and abuse;
  • Resolve disputes;
  • Enforce agreements; and
  • Meet legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements.

Retention periods vary based on the type of information, why it was collected, whether it is needed for security or legal purposes, and whether it can be safely deleted or de-identified.

We may retain aggregated or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify an individual.

11. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

However, no website, database, transmission method, or storage system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of information.

You should use caution when submitting information online and should not provide information that is unnecessary for the requested service.

12. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and subject to applicable legal limitations, you may have the right to:

  • Confirm whether we process your personal information;
  • Access personal information we maintain about you;
  • Correct inaccurate personal information;
  • Request deletion of personal information;
  • Obtain a portable copy of certain personal information;
  • Opt out of certain sales of personal information;
  • Opt out of targeted advertising;
  • Opt out of certain profiling activities;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
  • Appeal a decision concerning a privacy request.

We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.

These rights are not absolute. We may deny or limit a request when permitted by law, such as when we cannot verify your identity, must retain information to comply with law, or need the information to protect against fraud.

13. How to Submit a Privacy Request

You may submit a privacy request by email:

info@remodelingexpense.com

Please describe the request and provide enough information for us to locate the relevant records.

We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. Verification may require confirming information associated with your prior interaction with the Site.

An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law. We may request evidence that the agent is authorized to act for you.

We will respond within the period required by applicable law.

14. Appeals

If we deny a privacy request, residents of jurisdictions that provide an appeal right may appeal by emailing info@remodelingexpense.com with the subject line “Privacy Request Appeal.”

Include your original request and explain why you believe the decision should be reconsidered.

15. Global Privacy Control and Browser Signals

Where required by applicable law, we honor recognized browser-based opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control, as a request to opt out of qualifying sale, sharing, or targeted advertising for the browser or device sending the signal.

Because these signals may be associated only with a particular browser or device, you may need to enable or submit the preference separately on each browser or device you use.

16. California Privacy Notice

This section supplements the remainder of this Privacy Policy and applies to California residents to the extent the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended (“CCPA”), applies to RemodelingExpense.

Sale and Sharing of Personal Information

We do not sell personal information for money in the ordinary meaning of the term.

California law defines “sale” and “sharing” more broadly. Certain uses of advertising cookies, identifiers, analytics technologies, or compensated contractor-referral arrangements may be considered selling or sharing personal information under the CCPA.

During the preceding 12 months, we may have sold or shared the following categories of personal information:

  • Identifiers;
  • Internet or electronic network activity;
  • Approximate geolocation information;
  • Commercial or project-interest information; and

  • Exercise these rights without unlawful discrimination or retaliation.

Exercising California Privacy Rights

California residents may submit a request by emailing:

info@remodelingexpense.com

Use the subject line “California Privacy Request” and describe the right you wish to exercise.

We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before processing an access, correction, or deletion request.

An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, although we may require proof of authorization and direct identity confirmation.

Where required by applicable law, we honor recognized browser-based opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control, as an opt-out request for the browser or device sending the signal.

Sensitive Personal Information

We do not intentionally collect or use sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about consumers.

Do not submit Social Security numbers, account credentials, precise geolocation, health information, government identification numbers, or other sensitive personal information through the Site.

Financial Incentives

We do not currently offer financial incentives, price differences, or service differences in exchange for the collection, sale, or retention of personal information.

If we introduce such a program, we will provide any additional notice and obtain any consent required by applicable law.

17. Children’s Privacy

The Site is intended for adults researching home-improvement projects and is not directed to children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Site, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

18. Third-Party Websites and Embedded Content

The Site may link to or embed content from contractors, advertisers, retailers, manufacturers, video platforms, social-media services, government agencies, and other third parties.

Third parties may collect information when you interact with their links, advertisements, videos, widgets, forms, or embedded content.

Their collection and use of information are governed by their own privacy policies, not this Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for third-party privacy or security practices.

19. Visitors Outside the United States

RemodelingExpense is operated from the United States and is primarily intended for users located in the United States.

If you access the Site from another country, information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.

Privacy laws in those locations may differ from the laws where you live.

Where required, we use consent tools or other measures relating to cookies and advertising for visitors in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and other applicable jurisdictions.

20. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our Site, business, technology, vendors, or legal obligations.
