Advertising disclosure
Last Updated: July 12, 2026
RemodelingExpense is a free resource for homeowners. Advertising and referral relationships help support the operation of this site and allow us to provide our cost guides and calculators without charging visitors.
This page explains how advertising works on RemodelingExpense.com and how commercial relationships are kept separate from our cost data and editorial content.
How Advertising Is Identified
We use labels to help distinguish advertising and promotional content from independent editorial content.
- “Sponsored” identifies a paid placement from a contractor, service provider, manufacturer, retailer, or other advertiser.
- “From RemodelingExpense” identifies a message promoting our own services, features, or advertising program. These are internal promotions, not paid third-party placements.
- Third-party advertising networks may use labels such as “Ad,” “Advertisement,” or “Ads by Google.”
Affiliate links, referral forms, and other commercial relationships may also be identified through disclosures placed near the applicable content or link.
Our goal is to make the commercial nature of a placement clear where you encounter it, rather than requiring you to visit this page to determine whether something is advertising.
How Contractor Advertising Works
Local contractors may pay a flat monthly fee for advertising tied to a particular project category and geographic service area.
For example, a roofing contractor may purchase a sponsored placement displayed to visitors researching roofing costs within a particular market.
Depending on the placement offered, contractor advertising may work as follows:
- Limited local placement. We may limit a particular advertising position to one contractor within a defined project category and service area.
- Flat monthly pricing. Contractors pay an agreed monthly advertising fee rather than paying us each time someone views or clicks the placement.
- Geographic relevance. The contractor shown may be selected using a ZIP code you entered, your approximate location, the page you are viewing, or the contractor’s stated service area.
- Visibility only. Payment purchases advertising exposure. It does not purchase a favorable review, editorial recommendation, calculator adjustment, or ranking within our cost data.
The specific geographic area, project category, placement, term, and exclusivity of an advertisement are governed by the advertiser’s separate agreement with RemodelingExpense.
Editorial Independence
Advertising does not control our cost data, calculator results, or editorial conclusions.
Our remodeling cost estimates are developed using sources and factors such as material pricing, labor assumptions, regional adjustments, project specifications, reported costs, and industry research.
Advertisers cannot pay to:
- Change a cost estimate or calculator result;
- Raise or lower a displayed price range;
- Receive favorable editorial coverage;
- Change how a material, product, trade, or project is described;
- Remove legitimate criticism or warnings;
- Influence our project methodology; or
- Be represented as the best contractor for a visitor.
A contractor purchases visibility and access to an advertising position. Nothing more.
Contractor Advertising Is Not an Endorsement
The appearance of a contractor advertisement does not mean RemodelingExpense has inspected, certified, recommended, or guaranteed the contractor.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, we do not independently verify or continuously monitor an advertiser’s:
- Licensing;
- Insurance;
- Bonding;
- Employees or subcontractors;
- Workmanship;
- References;
- Complaint history;
- Pricing;
- Availability; or
- Compliance with applicable laws.
You are responsible for evaluating any contractor before hiring them.
Before signing a contract, verify current licensing and insurance directly with the appropriate state or local authority, check references and complaint history, review the written scope carefully, and obtain multiple written bids when practical.
Contractor Estimate Requests and Referrals
Some pages allow you to submit a request for contractor estimates.
When you submit an estimate request, the information you provide may be shared with contractor-matching services, contractors, lead-processing providers, or other parties involved in responding to your request.
Those parties may contact you about your project as described in the consent language displayed with the form.
RemodelingExpense may receive compensation when you:
- Submit an estimate request;
- Are matched with a contractor;
- Receive a call or response;
- Schedule an appointment;
- Purchase a service; or
- Complete another qualifying action.
Compensation from estimate requests and referrals does not affect the cost estimates, calculator results, or editorial content displayed on the Site.
Submitting an estimate request is optional. You may use our cost guides and calculators without requesting contractor contact.
Additional information about how estimate-request information is handled is available in our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.
Third-Party Advertising Networks
Some pages may display advertisements served by third-party advertising networks, including Google AdSense.
These advertisements are selected and delivered by the applicable advertising network. They may be contextual, personalized, or based on factors such as:
- The page being viewed;
- General geographic location;
- Browser or device information;
- Cookies or advertising identifiers; and
- Previous visits to this or other websites.
Third-party network ads are separate from contractor placements sold directly by RemodelingExpense.
Advertising networks may collect or process information through cookies and similar technologies. Our Privacy Policy explains these practices and the privacy controls that may be available.
Affiliate Links
The Site may occasionally contain affiliate links.
If you follow an affiliate link and make a purchase or complete another qualifying action, RemodelingExpense may receive a commission or referral fee. This generally does not increase the price you pay.
An affiliate relationship does not guarantee that a product or service is suitable for your project. Product information, availability, pricing, warranties, and terms are controlled by the applicable third party.
Where appropriate, affiliate relationships are disclosed near the relevant link or content.
Our Own Promotions
We may display messages promoting RemodelingExpense services, features, reports, contractor advertising opportunities, or other offerings.
These internal promotions are identified with wording such as “From RemodelingExpense.” They are not paid placements from an outside advertiser.
Advertiser Responsibility
Advertisers are responsible for the accuracy and legality of the claims, offers, credentials, images, and other information contained in their advertisements.
We may reject, suspend, edit, or remove advertising that we believe is inaccurate, misleading, unlawful, inappropriate, or inconsistent with our standards.
However, our acceptance of an advertisement does not constitute verification or approval of every advertiser claim.
